Unraveling Africa's Significance: Teikyo University's Seminar Sparks Engaging Discussions

In a bid to foster a deeper understanding of global issues, Teikyo University hosted its 2nd Global Challenge Seminar, themed "Let's Talk about Africa," on Thursday, October 12, 2023. The event, conducted in a virtual format, brought together students and esteemed faculty members from various disciplines. The seminar series is a cornerstone of Teikyo's commitment to nurturing Teikyo Global Competency and the vision of integrating globalization into everyday life. Each session is dedicated to delving into a pressing international theme, transcending the boundaries of faculties and disciplines.

The inaugural session revolved around the pivotal topic of "Food." Eminent speakers from the Faculty of Language Studies, Faculty of Science and Engineering, and the Graduate School of Public Health shared their insights on "Food and Globalization," captivating the audience with their profound knowledge. The second session pivoted towards a focused exploration of "Africa." Professor Hideki Yamamoto, a distinguished figure in the Faculty of Pharma-Science, shed light on "African Food and Health," while Senior Assistant Professor Atsuko Ukai from the Faculty of Language Studies, Department of Language Studies, illuminated the captivating world of "African Art."

This dynamic seminar witnessed the enthusiastic participation of a diverse cohort, comprising 6 students, 6 faculty members, and 3 staff members - a melting pot of perspectives. The event facilitated meaningful exchanges, propelling both students and faculty members to reflect on Africa with newfound depth and understanding. Spanning across Itabashi Campus, Hachioji Campus, and Utsunomiya Campus, this virtual gathering transcended physical boundaries, enabling spirited interactions among participants from various corners of the university.
