In a celebration of ink and paper, the Teikyo University Calligraphy Club recently held its much-anticipated exhibition, titled "Now," at the Teikyo University Museum. Running from December 8, 2023, to January 11, 2024, the event provided a canvas to showcase the club's talent and delve into the rich tapestry of its history. The exhibition, a nod to the calligraphy club's remarkable 3rd place finish at this year's All-Japan High School/College Calligraphy Exhibition, featured an array of distinguished works, including those that clinched prestigious prizes such as the coveted "Calligraphy Exhibition Grand Prize."
From strokes that whispered tales of tradition to innovative calligraphy performance pieces, the exhibit was a testament to the club's commitment to pushing artistic boundaries. Attendees were treated not only to static works but also immersive calligraphy performance videos, offering a dynamic perspective on the art form.
Beyond the strokes on display, the exhibition went the extra mile, incorporating panel displays documenting the club's activities and even showcasing the evolution of its uniforms throughout the years. This holistic approach provided visitors with a unique opportunity to feel the pulse of Teikyo University's calligraphy club—its storied past and vibrant present.
During the event, the calligraphy club received an honor of its own as Teikyo University's Chairman of the Board and President, Yoshifumi Yoshihito Okinaga, paid a visit. The club's director, Junya Fukui, along with talented members Yuki Sato and Yujin Kyoda, took the opportunity to share insights into their artistic endeavors and shed light on the club's vibrant activities.
As the curtains drew to a close on this captivating exhibition, the Teikyo University Calligraphy Club extended its gratitude to all who graced the event with their presence. The "Now" exhibition not only served as a reflection of the club's prowess but also as a bridge connecting tradition with contemporary expression—a true celebration of the timeless art of calligraphy.
