From Monday, July 15th to Saturday, July 20th, 2024, fifth-year students from Teikyo University's School of Medicine conducted a hygiene and public health training at the Vietnam National Children’s Hospital and Hanoi Medical University.
Based on the credit transfer agreement concluded between our university, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, and Hanoi Medical University, the purpose of this internship was to observe the current state of infectious diseases occurring around the world, mainly in Asia, and to use this knowledge in future medical activities, as well as to aim to become medical professionals with an international perspective. Participants mainly learned about clinical training, global health, preventive medicine, and medical systems and access.
At Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, where the students were to do their internship, they visited various medical departments, divisions and laboratories, and also completed clinical training, learning about medical equipment and the medical situation in Vietnam. At Hanoi Medical University, they toured the Gene and Protein Research Center and listened to a lecture on regional characteristics by an infectious disease specialist, deepening their understanding. They also visited Hai Duong Children's Hospital, a new destination introduced to them by the locals, where they learned about the history of the hospital's establishment and toured the infectious disease ward and intensive care unit.
Through this internship, participants are expected to learn about infection control, international medical care, and the medical situation in Vietnam, and deepen their understanding from a variety of perspectives.
