On Thursday, September 26, 2024, Haruki Shimamura (4th year student, Faculty of Medical Technology) was recognized by the Saitama Prefecture Eastern Region Medical Control Council for his efforts in saving a life.
On Thursday, August 8th of the same year, Shimamura was working part-time when a woman came to borrow an AED. Together with his boss, he rushed over to the scene, administering cardiac massage to the unconscious woman in her 80s until the ambulance arrived. His actions were recognized as brave, and he was awarded this prize on the recommendation of the ambulance team that responded. Shimamura said, "Because I have been studying medicine on a daily basis, I was able to take action immediately. I want to continue to work hard as a medical professional who can help many people."
