Immediately after the Noto Peninsula earthquake, the Goso Seminar has been selling local products with donations. Part of this activity was in the form of participating in the "Satoyama Satoumi Business Workshop" held by the Satoyama Promotion Office of the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Department of Ishikawa Prefecture.
At the workshop, people from various generations in Hakui City, Wajima City, Noto Town, Anamizu Town, and Nanao City, who have been struggling towards recovery despite facing repeated hardships such as the Noto Peninsula earthquake and heavy rain disasters, spoke about the current situation after the disaster and the efforts being made towards recovery, exchanged opinions, and it was an opportunity for students to be inspired in various ways.
Kazuki Muto, who renovated an old house in Hakui City and runs a cafe and accommodation facility that roasts his own coffee, visited our Utsunomiya Campus on Thursday, September 26, 2024, to give a lecture in preparation for the workshop. Muto said, "You may think that it is still a nuisance to visit the disaster area, but there will be no recovery without a flow of people. Please think of Noto and visit if possible."
Mayumi Tada, the representative director of Shunran no Sato, a group of farmhouse guesthouses in Noto Town, said, "I'm in my 20s, but if I'm gone, there will be no young people in this area." Tokio Oyama (3rd year, Faculty of Economics), who listened to her story, said, "I thought that regional development meant livening up and revitalizing the area, but when I heard that the influx of young people is also part of regional development, my thoughts changed." Naoto Iwabuchi (3rd year, Faculty of Economics) also said, "I thought that everyone in the Noto Peninsula was depressed after the earthquake, but I feel that there are many people who are full of energy and working towards recovery." In addition to Muto and Tada, we also spoke with Kazuma Ninda of Tohda management, Junko Araki of Wajima Umi Umai Kobo, Atsushi Maruyama of Noto Wine, and Takaaki Hino of Hino Tomori. Thank you for your cooperation in these difficult times.
Outside of the workshop, some students participated in disaster relief volunteer work in Wajima City. They will continue to show their support for the disaster-stricken areas and cooperate with the recovery efforts.
