Hachioji CampusProfessor Makimura attended the closing ceremony of the Hachioji Elementary School Science Education Center

On Saturday, February 15, 2025, Professor Koichi Makimura, Deputy Head of Center Teikyo University Institute of Medical Mycology was invited to attend the closing ceremony of the Hachioji City Elementary School Science Education Center for 2024, held at the Hachioji City Education Center.
Since 1997, the University's Medical Mycology Research Center has been conducting the "Hachioji City Summer Children's Science Class" in collaboration with the Hachioji City Board of Education at the request of the Center. The 27th science class, held in July last year, was themed on "What is the blueprint of life, genes (DNA)?" and 73 children participated. Under the guidance of Deputy Head of Center Makimura and others, they conducted an experiment to extract DNA from pufferfish milt. In December 2024, the Center presented a letter of appreciation for this long-standing contribution to the community.

The closing ceremony resumed the invitation of guests, which had been temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and was attended by the Hachioji City Superintendent of Education, the Hachioji City Elementary School Principals Association President, and other relevant parties. A research presentation and award ceremony was held by the sixth graders at Hachioji City elementary schools who belonged to the center. In his guest speech, Vice Head of Center Makimura praised the children's interest and inquisitiveness in science, providing an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of continued collaboration between our university and local educational institutions.
Our school will continue to support local educational activities to contribute to developing the scientific thinking skills of children who will lead the next generation.
