Teikyo University Recurrent College held a seminar on "The New U.S. Administration and the Future of International Affairs"Kasumigaseki Campus

On Thursday, February 20, 2025, the Teikyo University Recurrent College International Liberal Arts Seminar "The New US Administration and the Future International Situation" (sponsored by Chiyoda Ward) was held at the Teikyo University Kasumigaseki Campus. The theme of the seminar was "As Japan-US relations reach the milestone of 80 years since the end of the war, how should Japan deal with the turbulent international situation, including Russia's invasion of Ukraine and Israel's attack on Gaza?" There was a high level of interest in this timely topic involving the new administrations of Japan and the US, and many people participated.

In the first part of the event, experts in international politics took to the stage. Professor Kazuhiro Maejima of the Faculty of Global Studies at Sophia University spoke about "Japan-US relations, past and future," in which he presented Japan-US relations from the postwar period to the present and how Japan should respond in the long term. Former TV Asahi News Bureau Chief Kiichi Takekuma spoke about "How has the Ukraine war changed the world?", examining the war situation over the past three years and examining the Trump administration's policy toward ending the war. Professor Hirotaka Watanabe of Faculty of Law at our university spoke about "The Ukraine-Gaza conflict and the possibility of new developments in European-American relations - a repeat of 'deja vu'?", in which he explained the structural changes in the international community centered on US-European relations, the direction of the conflict, and the roles that Europe and Japan should play.
In the second panel discussion, Professor Kensuke Karube, a journalist and professor at the Faculty of Economics of our university, moderated the discussion, including questions from the audience, on where the chaotic world situation is headed and how Japan should deal with this situation. There was lively Q&A and interaction between the speakers and participants, making it a very successful seminar.
Teikyo University Recurrent College will continue to give back the diverse knowledge of Teikyo University to society and provide a place of learning for many people.
