A student from Itabashi Campuswon the Outstanding Presentation Award at the 34th Neurobehavioral Pharmacology Young Researchers Gathering

At the 34th Gathering of Young Researchers in Neurobehavioral Pharmacology held at Ochanomizu University on Sunday, March 16, 2025, Teikyo University students Yuina Yamada (4th year, Faculty of Medical Technology) and Kazuna Iinuma (4th year Faculty of Medical Technology) received the Outstanding Presentation Award.

Yamada has been conducting research under Associate Professor Goto Mari of the Department of Department of Clinical Laboratory Science Faculty of Medical Technology, and at this conference, she gave a presentation titled "Analysis of Biochemical Items in Low Birth Weight Model Rads." This research was highly evaluated for clarifying the influence of the maternal environment before pregnancy and during the fetal and childhood periods on biochemical items such as blood sugar, lipids, and protein in low birth weight infants, in the "DOHaD theory," which states that the maternal environment is involved in lifestyle-related diseases, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and lipid metabolism disorders in the child's later adulthood, leading to the award.
Iinuma has been conducting research under the supervision of Takahiro Kameda, Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Department of Clinical Laboratory Science, Faculty of Medical Technology, and at this conference, he gave a presentation entitled "Modification and Fragmentation of Apolipoproteins in High Density Lipoproteins by Myeloperoxidase and Chymase." In this research, he revealed that oxidative enzymes released from macrophages and other cells present in atherosclerotic lesions and proteolytic enzymes released from mast cells cause structural changes in various apolipoproteins in HDL. This research was highly evaluated for its process of discovering new biomarkers for atherosclerosis and Alzheimer's disease, leading to this award.
We look forward to seeing more from Yamada and Iinuma in the future.
