At the International Pancreaticobiliary Congress 2025 (IPBM2025) and the 1st Asia-Pacific Pancreaticobiliary Symposium held in Seoul, South Korea on Friday, April 4th and Saturday, April 5th, 2025, Professor Masaki Sugimoto and Assistant Professor Takumi Sueyoshi of the Innovation Lab Okinaga Research Institute of Teikyo University, Teikyo University, won the Special Award for Outstanding Presentation for their presentation titled "Innovative artificial intelligence and machine learning based spatial computing AR navigation for open, lap, and robotic hepatectomy." This award is given to outstanding research presentations in the field of pancreaticobiliary tract, and the research and innovative technology of Professor Sugimoto and Assistant Professor Sueyoshi have been highly evaluated internationally, leading to the award.
The International Pancreaticobiliary Congress 2025 is a major international academic conference in the field of pancreaticobiliary disease, hosted by South Korea Pancreaticobiliary Society and co-hosted by the Japan Biliary Association, the Taiwanese International Society for Pancreaticobiliary Endoscopy, and the Thai Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and promotes research, education, and technology sharing in the international pancreaticobiliary field. As an international conference, it serves as a forum for experts to gather and discuss the latest research findings and technological advances.
The latest technology and research results in the field of pancreatic and biliary tract surgery were discussed, and Professor Sugimoto and Assistant Professor Sueyoshi made a presentation on the development of an innovative spatial computing surgical support based on artificial intelligence for hepatectomy. This is expected to contribute to the further development of surgical support and improved patient safety. Professor Sugimoto said, "I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone involved in this research. We will continue to promote research and development activities at our institute and university." This award recognizes Professor Sugimoto and Assistant Professor Sueyoshi's many years of innovative technology development efforts, and they have been selected for research grants such as the Teikyo University Advanced Research Promotion Grant (Incubation Grant) and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (Basic C).
