Hachioji Campus: Special lecture by Japanese men's table tennis player Fuminori Kamezawa of the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics

On Monday, June 30, 2025, a special lecture was given by Japan's men's table tennis player for the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics, Fuminori Kamezawa, in the Introduction to Sign Language Communication I class taught by Associate Professor Yuji Tamekawa of the Teikyo Graduate School Graduate School of Teacher Education School of Education.
This class is aimed at students enrolled at Hachioji Campus, and its purpose is to teach basic sign language and deepen their knowledge about hearing impairments and sign language.

On the day, Kamezawa spoke about his upbringing, his involvement with sign language, and his enthusiasm for the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics. During the question and answer session at the end of the lecture, a student asked, "How can we communicate with the deaf?" Kamezawa responded, "The vast majority of people cannot use sign language, and deaf people don't expect hearing people to be able to use sign language. They are happy when hearing people try to communicate and understand them." The students listened to his talk with serious expressions.
Our university will continue to provide a diverse learning environment.
