臨床工学技士とは

"What is a clinical engineer?"
A clinical engineer is a member of the medical staff who works in a healthcare facility and specializes in medical equipment that is indispensable to today's healthcare. In particular, they are called "engineers of life" because their main job is to specialize in handling life-sustaining equipment such as artificial heart-lung machines, ventilators, and blood purification systems. Recent developments in advanced medical technology have increased the sophistication and complexity of medical devices, and society is placing higher demands on clinical engineering technicians as a result.

カリキュラム

The curriculum is designed to enable students to respond quickly to constantly evolving medical technology and to acquire the ethics and mental attitude necessary to be a medical professional. In addition, in order to play an active role as a member of a team, students learn to understand the work of other professions and acquire good communication skills through studies such as medical communication studies and Team Medical Care.

Syllabus

Syllabus of the Department of Medical Technology, Medical Engineering Course

Class Introduction

General Education

Information Processing Seminar
In today's information society, students must master information processing skills as a basic literacy. Students in this course gain knowledge of email and web searching with an emphasis on processing Japanese documents. In addition to learning the necessary skills for writing reports and conducting graduation research, students will also learn skills that are applicable outside of the field of clinical engineering.

Specialized basic field

Introduction to Medicine
Introduction to medicine is very important in clinical engineering, which is a fusion of medicine and engineering. In this class, students will comprehensively learn and deepen their understanding of medical knowledge required for medical care from four perspectives: symptomatic treatment, causal treatment, disease prevention, and health promotion. In addition, students will look at the benefits, problems, and progress of medical care, which is the practical application of the many technologies and knowledge brought about by medicine.

Common Specialties

Research Methodology I & II
Students will understand the importance and necessity of research as medical professionals, and learn about research design, presentation formats, types of papers, and the basics of paper writing. In addition, students will learn how to search for literature, design research, and how to present specific research, as a foundation for smooth implementation of future research opportunities in the medical field. As a summary, students will work in groups to summarize and present the assigned theme.

Specialized Fields

Introduction to Medical Equipment
Students will learn the fundamentals of medical device types, principles, and safety as well as the basics of medical device safety. Topics include types, roles, basic operations, and structures of medical devices, the relationship between the physiological functions of the human body and medical devices, treatment devices, and examination devices. In addition, students learn about the relationship between medical care and society, such as medical insurance systems and medical waste, and about medical devices in general, including the latest medical technologies, such as robotic surgery and interventional treatment.

Biological function substitution technology II
Let's take a look at the heart-lung machine, which is one of the biological function replacement devices. In order to operate a heart-lung machine, you will mainly learn about the principles of the heart-lung machine, the components of the machine, and the knowledge necessary to operate it safely. At the same time, students will deepen their understanding of changes in biological conditions and pathological conditions, and will also learn the knowledge necessary in clinical settings.

Practical training and exercises

Biological function substitution technology training Ⅲ
This training focuses on artificial dialysis equipment, which is a type of life support management equipment. Using dialysis equipment used in actual medical settings, students will learn how to assemble blood circuits, perform procedures centered on priming, and prepare dialysate. Masu. You will also learn about the pathology of chronic kidney disease, the principles of hemodialysis, and treatment methods.

Practical Training in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Clinical engineering technicians who handle medical devices based on electrical and electronic engineering need to be familiar with the functions and principles of the devices due to the nature of their work in managing medical devices. Students experience the theories learned in lectures on electrical engineering and electronics through experiments and perform basic experiments such as electronic engineering and reading oscilloscopes, voltmeters, and ammeters.

臨床実習

While the first to third-year students mainly receive on-campus training, the fourth-year students begin clinical training at a hospital. From the 2nd year onward, students will solidify the foundation through on-campus training so that they can be ready to work immediately in the field, and in the 3rd year, students will use the latest equipment installed on-campus to prepare for the 4th year of clinical training, and to establish knowledge to improve their practical skills.

Practical training / Seminars schedule

臨床実習スケジュール

Basic on-campus training in electrical engineering begins in 2nd year, and in 3rd year undergo practical training that is closer to the clinical setting. After acquiring basic knowledge through these on-campus training, students begin clinical training in actual medical settings from the first semester 4th year.

Clinical Training Subjects

臨床実習(臨床工学)

Clinical Training I & II
Based on the knowledge acquired in the on-campus training, students will understand the importance of clinical engineering in actual clinical settings, the duties of clinical engineers, and learn how to respond appropriately to patients. An important objective of the training is to acquire basic practical skills as a clinical engineer, learn about the operation of clinical engineering departments and medical ethics, and acquire responsibility and awareness as a member of a medical team.

Main Training Contents

  1. Blood Purification System Training
  2. Intensive Care Unit Training (including ventilator training)
  3. Operating Room Training (including practice with artificial heart-lung machine)
  4. Medical Device anagement Training

Grading Criteria

About our GPA System

We have introduced a GPA system as a grade evaluation system. By evaluating the learning outcomes with an objective numerical value called GPA, we clarify the grade evaluation, and it would be useful for the learning guidance of students. In addition, this system generally conforms to the grade evaluation system generally adopted by universities in Europe and the United States.

Credit Recognition

Study at the Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology is based on a credit system. In the credit system, a fixed number of credits is set for all subjects, and if student passes the exam or other method after the lesson and preparatory study (preparation, review, etc.) of that subject, the fixed number of credits is given.

Credit system

There are five types of courses: lectures, exercises, experiments, practical training, and practical skills, which are completed in half a semester except for special courses. Each course is calculated according to the following criteria. Please refer to the course registration table for the number of credits for each subject. Naturally, preparatory studies (preparation, review, etc.) are also required. The syllabus explains the preparation and study requirements for each course, therefore please study in a systematic manner.

Unit
Credits are determined based on the study time. Taking into considereation of teaching methods and educational effects of the classes, one credit is 45 hours (15 hours for class, 15 hours for preparation, 15 hours for review).
